The Quickening of the Journey

Well, we are over half way through the trip (don't cry, smile because it happened... At least that's what I tell myself. Dr. Seuss knew a thing or two, you guys).

Anyway, I realize I haven't been posting very much. Truthfully, it is because wifi is basically non existent, even when it's advertised. But more on that another day. Now, let's take a look at Amsterdam and Brussels.

Amsterdam. I see why so many people fall in love with it. The city is crowded, yes, and yet it isn't hectic at all. People seem generally happy to be walking the streets, and, just outside the hustle and bustle, the streets get quiet, and you can really take in the beauty.

The canals are simply, in a word, stunning. Especially at night, when the lights reflect off the calm water and the haze around creates a warm feeling, despite the chill of the air. Being surrounded by water makes me wish I hadn't been born in a desert, but, maybe, that's what makes it so special.

I should mention the houses, too, which all stack close to one another, and lean in various ways, often out toward you. It's like being in a more delightful
Wonderland. And, it blows me away.

Then, we ventured to Brussels. It doesn't have quite the same charm that Amsterdam excelled in, but it was a lovely city nonetheless. Because we were there such a short time, and without a guide, it soon turned into a delicious food tour. Waffles, and mussels, I'm telling you right now: SO GOOD.

I'm unable to tell you many things we've done, simply because writing on this small screen gives me troubles. But, pictures should arrive online when we arrive back on August 13th! No! Too soon!!
